A Day in the Shawangunk Mountain Region

Apple and peach picking season is the perfect time to take a drive to the Shawangunk Mountain Region. Orchards, wineries, breweries, farm stands, cider houses, hiking trails, rock climbing and rail trails galore.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to spend the day in the Shawangunks.

Option 1
Kick things off with a coffee or breakfast at Mud Puddle Coffee Roasters or Dry Fly Coffee Company. From there jump on the rail trail. After a long walk or bike ride I'd say it's about time for lunch and recommend Twin Star Orchards.

If you're a key lime pie fan or want some fresh produce to bring home, I highly recommend finding time to stop in at WallKill View Farm Market. Just a word to the wise New Paltz can get really busy on weekends and especially during the fall leaf peeping season. Start early!

Option 2
Another great way to spend the day is grabbing a day pass to explore Mohonk Mountain House Trails or Mohonk Preserve followed by lunch at P&G's and ice cream at Twistee Cone.

Option 3
If you feel like heading a little further North and start your day a little later. Exploring a few wineries on the Shawangunks Wine Trail followed by dinner at  Butterfield Restaurant is always a great choice. You can find the Shawangunks Wine Trail Map here
